August ’26 Drop: Nine Tees You Asked For
I didn't pick these nine, you guys did.
That is how The Old Tin Can works. Tell us the club, the moment, and whatever detail you can remember about it, whether that is a scoreline from 1972 or just a current player you think deserves a shirt, and we do the digging to make sure it holds up before it goes anywhere near a print. No shortlist of the "best" 92, no committee, just whatever comes in.
This August, nine of those requests became actual tees.
I don't want to blindly put a few tees into the ether, so here is the story behind each one.
Sam Dalby's Overhead at Wembley
Bolton went to Wembley on 24 May 2026 to face Stockport County in the League One play off final, in front of 48,268 fans, their third crack at the League One play offs in four years. They had already beaten Bradford City in the semi-final to get there, which is good going in itself.
Rúben Rodrigues put Bolton ahead in the 3rd minute, but Stockport levelled through Adama Sidibeh in the 30th minute and the sides went in level at half time. The game turned midway through the second half. Kyle Wootton turned a Bolton cross into his own net in the 64th minute to put Wanderers back in front, and Steven Schumacher's decision to bring on Sam Dalby in the 62nd minute paid off when the substitute made it 3-1 in the 81st minute with an impressive acrobatic effort. Rodrigues added his second, a stoppage time penalty in the 90+4th minute, to make the final score 4-1.
It sent Bolton back to the Championship after seven years away, a stretch that had dropped them as low as League Two at one point.

He Answered the Call
Huey's request did not point us to a specific match. It did not need to. Patrick Agyemang's phone celebration is not tied to one goal, it's tied to almost all of them.
Agyemang arrived at Derby County in July 2025 from Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer, a club record fee and a USMNT international with a habit that predates his move to England by years. His brothers dared him to find a signature celebration when he was younger. He tried a few things and landed on miming a phone call. "Call me when you need me and I'll be there," is how he explains it. He has done it after goals in college, throughout his time in MLS, and on his full USMNT debut. Derby County's own social team clearly knew what they were getting, because when they announced the signing, the caption on the video of him doing it was just four words: "He answered the call."
His first season in England took a while to get going. A hernia recovery kept him out of the opening month, but once fit he became one of the most reliable strikers in the Championship, reaching double figures for league goals by February. The pick of them, for our money, was the winner at Preston in the 87th minute after he had missed an open goal earlier in the same match.

Champions in Majorca
Brian Clough's first league title with Derby County, won in 1971-72, is the one every Rams fan still tells the same way fifty years on.
Clough was 37 and still building his reputation when Derby went into the final weeks of that season locked in a four-way fight with Leeds, Liverpool and Man City, with a single point separating all of them. Man City played their last fixture first and went top by a point, with nothing left to play for. Derby then won their own final match (a huge game by the way) 1-0 against Liverpool, John McGovern scoring the only goal, to move back above City with their season complete. That left the title in the hands of two results on the same Monday in May: Leeds away at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Liverpool away at Arsenal.
Most managers would have stayed and watched. Cloughy and his players did not. Peter Taylor took the squad on holiday to Majorca, while Clough went with his family to the Isles of Scilly, both effectively out of the country while the title they had spent a season chasing was decided without them.
Leeds could not find the goal they needed at Molineux, Liverpool were held to a draw at Highbury, and Derby County were First Division champions, their first ever league title, while half the squad were on a beach.
The title took Derby into the European Cup for the first time the following season, where they beat Eusébio's Benfica 3-0 on aggregate, only the second club in European football to keep a clean sheet over Benfica home and away, before a controversial semi-final defeat to Juventus.

Final Day at the Valley
Go back to 3 May 2025, the final day of the League Two season, and Bradford City needed a result at home to Fleetwood Town to pip Walsall to the third automatic promotion spot. They had been here before and blown it. Bradford sat 12th in the table on Christmas Day 2024, going nowhere, before a run of 12 wins and a draw from their next 15 games dragged them into the promotion picture. A wobble in the run in then made the final day a must win.
Nothing separated the two sides for 90 minutes. Then, in stoppage time, George Lapslie's shot deflected off Antoni Sarcevic and rolled into the bottom corner in the 90+6th minute. Valley Parade erupted so completely that fans spilled onto the pitch before the referee could even get the game restarted. It secured promotion to League One at Walsall's expense and ended a six season stay in the bottom tier for the Bantams under manager Graham Alexander.

Sometimes It's Just Tommy Doyle
Not every request comes with a scoreline attached.
Doyle came through Manchester City's academy and arrived at Molineux on a season long loan in September 2023, including a stunning goal against Brentford in cup competition that season, before Wolves made the move permanent in the summer of 2024. Last season he went out again, spending 2025-26 on loan at Birmingham City in the Championship, 32 appearances in all, while Wolves themselves endured a difficult Premier League campaign that ended in relegation. Doyle was back in training at Compton Park within days of that loan ending in May, and by preseason this summer he was fully back in the fold under new manager Rob Edwards, both player and club now finding their feet in the Championship together.

Pablo Hernandez, Man…
Go back to 12 July 2020, and Leeds United arrived at Swansea City for a game that mattered on two levels at once. Leeds were top of the Championship and pushing for a first promotion to the Premier League in 16 years, but the day itself was overshadowed by something bigger. Jack Charlton, the World Cup winner and Leeds legend who made a club record 773 appearances, had died two days earlier at the age of 85. Both sides wore black armbands, held a minute's silence, and Leeds warmed up in shirts reading "RIP Big Jack."
The game stayed goalless and nervy deep into the second half. Marcelo Bielsa sent on Pablo Hernández at half time, and with the match drifting towards a draw, Luke Ayling found him with a cross in the 89th minute. Hernández controlled it first time and finished off the post, past a Swansea side he had played for himself a few years earlier. He tore off his shirt in celebration and picked up a booking for it, not that anyone at Leeds minded.
It moved Leeds 3 points clear of West Brom and 6 clear of Brentford, leaving them needing just 4 points from their last three games to be sure of going up. It was not the mathematical clincher itself, that came 5 days later through other results, but it is the goal Leeds fans still reach for first when they talk about that promotion. There is a mural of Hernández celebrating it on a wall in Leeds to this day, now it's on a shirt.

Bobby Kamwa (Emmanuel Adebayor)
Kamwa spent two seasons at Newport County, scoring 14 goals in 83 appearances, including a hat-trick against MK Dons and an 83rd minute winner on the final day of last season that kept Newport up. He then turned down an improved contract and joined Bristol Rovers instead, signing this summer on 26 June 2026. Local rivals either side of the Severn, and a popular player walking straight from one to the other. That was never going to pass quietly.
It came to a head on 22 August 2026, when Bristol Rovers hosted Newport in the Severnside derby at the Memorial Stadium. Newport's travelling fans booed Kamwa throughout, and in the 74th minute, with the score at 3-2 to Rovers, he curled in a finish to make it 4-2.
He then ran the full length of the pitch to celebrate directly in front of the away end that had spent 90 minutes abusing him, and was pelted with plastic bottles for his trouble. He picked up a yellow card for it.
Kamwa had more or less promised this beforehand. Speaking to the media before the game, he said "if they give me some proper stick, I'll celebrate." Newport gave him stick.
Emulating his inner Adebayor, I rate it.

4-3 to Swindon Town
Swindon Town had been here before and had it taken away from them. Three years earlier they had won a play-off final of their own, only for the promotion to be stripped over financial irregularities. So, when player manager Glenn Hoddle led his side out against Leicester City in the 1993 First Division play-off final, in front of 73,802 fans at Wembley, this was not just a cup final. It was Swindon's last real shot at a top flight they had been chasing since 1920.
They did not make it easy on themselves either way. Hoddle opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, and two goals either side of half time from Craig Maskell (47th minute) and Shaun Taylor (53rd minute) had Swindon 3-0 up and cruising.
Then Leicester fired back.
Julian Joachim pulled one back in the 57th minute, Steve Walsh made it 3-2 in the 68th, and Steve Thompson levelled it at 3-3 barely a minute later. Six minutes of football undid an hour of good work.
It took a penalty to settle it. Paul Bodin converted in the 84th minute, and Swindon held on for a 4-3 win that sent them into the top flight for the first, and to this day only, time in their history. Hoddle left for Chelsea almost immediately afterwards. Swindon were relegated the following season and have never been back, but none of that touches what happened at Wembley on 31 May 1993.

Newport County's Welsh Cup Win (and what followed)
Go back to May 1980, and Newport County were a Fourth Division club under manager Len Ashurst, about to win promotion, playing in front of crowds you could count in the low thousands at Somerton Park. The Welsh Cup was not a glamorous competition, but County had fought past Cardiff City, Wrexham and Merthyr Tydfil to reach a two legged final against Shrewsbury Town, chasing the club's first ever win in the competition.
They took the first leg 2-1 at home on 6 May, in front of 9,950 fans, their biggest crowd of the season. Six days later they finished the job away at Shrewsbury's Gay Meadow, winning 3-0 to make it 5-1 on aggregate. The squad that day included a young John Aldridge, still years away from becoming a Liverpool legend.
Winning the cup changed the shape of Newport's next season entirely. It earned them a place in the European Cup Winners' Cup, and County went on a run still talked about in south Wales today: past Northern Ireland's Crusaders, past Norway's SK Haugar, and all the way to a quarter final against Carl Zeiss Jena of East Germany.
